Committed Pedophile Writes a Guide on How to Access Child Porn Online While in Prison

sentenced to prison jail

A prisoner who wrote a guide about how to access child abuse images online while serving time for committing sexual offenses has had his sentence increased.

The Dartmoor Prison inmate was on the sex offenders’ wing when he wrote a six page guide for another prisoner who was about to be released.

The document, handwritten by John Blatchford, gave detailed instructions on how to access the most serious kinds of child abuse images and movies without being detected by the police.

It explained how to get onto the dark web and even included the names of illegal websites where images are exchanged. It also showed how to erase all evidence of the illegal browsing from a computer.

The creation of the blueprint put him in breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) which included a prohibition against discussing child sexual abuse with anyone, either in person or online.

Blatchford was serving a six year sentence for attempting to commit sexual offenses against two girls aged seven and nine after he was trapped by a police under cover operation.

He sent extremely serious child abuse images to the officer who was posing as a the father of the two fictional girls and pretending to be a fellow pedophile. He went on to arrange to abuse the children.

Blatchford, 41, of Blackwater Mews, Totton, near Southampton, admitted breaching the SHPO and was jailed for a further 22 months by Judge Paul Cook at Exeter Crown Court.

He told him: “This six page document was hand written by you and is a pedophile manual or blueprint of how to access images of children and there are references to the dark web and how to avoid detection.

“The length of time it would have taken to write demonstrates your determination to commit offenses and to encourage others to do the same. That is shown by the technical detail in this deeply disturbing document.”

Richard Crabb, prosecuting, said Blatchford created the guide in June 2017 and gave it to a friend who was about to be released from Dartmoor.

It only came to light when the other man’s offender manager became suspicious about his behaviour after his release and searched his home. Blatchford was identified as the author because his fingerprints were on the paper.

He said:”The crown say this was a flagrant and deliberate attempt to assist another in accessing child abuse material and avoid detection. It is aggravated by the fact that it was committed while in prison.”

He was classified as a dangerous offender and jailed for six years with a four year extended license at Southampton Crown Court in October 2014 after being found guilty of attempting to arrange a child sex offense and seven counts of distributing indecent images of children.

He previously served a one-year sentence in 2008 for possession of 2,500 images or movies of children, including many in the worst categories.

William Parkhill, defending, said the guide dealt with accessing images rather than actually making contact with children and was written at a time when Blatchford was using illegally obtained drugs in Dartmoor.

He said he has since been moved to Ashfield Prison near Bristol where he has volunteered to take a sex offenders’ treatment program and has got off drugs.
